Camel race

A fairground stall turned into a maths game for the interactive whiteboard. Each team solves its calculations on its half of the screen and, after a right answer, throws a ball: a pointer sweeps across three holes and you stop it at the right moment. The camel moves 1, 2 or 3 spaces, and the first to cross the line wins.

Camel race: two camels with riders move along their lanes above the number pads and the three holes.

What children practise

Levels and settings

Easy

A 10-space race, a slow ball and the simplest calculations for the chosen year.

Medium

A 15-space race, normal ball speed and mid-level calculations.

Hard

A 20-space race, a fast ball and the most demanding calculations for the year.

Year group

From Year 1 to Year 6: from adding and subtracting to 10 up to powers, roots and brackets.

How to play it in class

  1. Open the race on the whiteboard or a tablet and choose the year group and difficulty.
  2. If you like, change the race length and the ball speed by hand.
  3. Each team solves its calculation on its own number pad and taps check.
  4. After each right answer, throw when the pointer is over the yellow (1), green (2) or red (3) hole.
  5. The first camel to cross the finish line wins.

Ways to play

In teams, at the same time

The screen splits in two and each team plays on its own half at the same time.

For one player

One child plays on the whole screen at their own pace: on the whiteboard, a computer or a tablet.

Frequently asked questions

Does the team with the most right answers always win?

Not always: each right answer earns one throw, and the ball can be worth 1, 2 or 3 spaces. The red hole is worth 3, but it is the smallest.

Is there a time limit?

No. The race ends when a camel reaches the finish, 10, 15 or 20 spaces away.

What happens after a wrong answer?

There is no throw: the answer is cleared and the pad locks for a second before the team can try again.

Is it free?

You can play 5 free games without signing up. After that, a one-off payment of €9.99 unlocks all 78 games for ever, on all your devices. There is no subscription.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It opens in the browser of the interactive whiteboard, panel, computer, tablet or iPad. Once loaded, it also works offline.
