Sílabas saltarinas

A picture, or a written clue, appears with its syllables jumbled up. Children tap them in order to build the word, which then appears in full. The words are in Spanish, so it suits Spanish lessons and bilingual classes. In teams, each half gets the same words and plays at its own pace; a wrong syllable shows the word and moves on without a point.

What children practise

Levels and settings

Early years

Simple syllables, always with a picture: two-syllable words, a mix or three, like luna, gato or zapato.

Y1

Simple syllables with a picture or a written clue in Spanish; consonant blends on hard difficulty.

Y2

Consonant blends such as bru-ja, pla-to or cro-que-ta, with one or two extra syllables.

Extra syllables

Just the right ones, or one or two extra to mislead.

How to play it in class

  1. Choose the year group or, in the settings, two- or three-syllable words or a mix, the clues and the points to win: 3, 5 or 8.
  2. Press Start: each team sees the picture and the syllables in its half of the screen.
  3. Tap the syllables in word order; each correct one fills a gap.
  4. A finished word scores a point. The first team to reach the goal wins.

Ways to play

In teams, at the same time

The screen splits in two and each team plays on its own half at the same time.

For one player

One child plays on the whole screen at their own pace: on the whiteboard, a computer or a tablet.

Frequently asked questions

Are the words in English?

No. The words and syllables are in Spanish: the game is designed for learning to read in Spanish.

Does it work for children who can't read well yet?

Yes. With picture-only clues, they recognise the word from the picture and only see simple syllables.

What happens after a wrong syllable?

The game shows the whole word and moves on, with no point for that team. The other team carries on at its own pace.

Is it free?

You can play 5 free games without signing up. After that, a one-off payment of €9.99 unlocks all 78 games for ever, on all your devices. There is no subscription.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It opens in the browser of the interactive whiteboard, panel, computer, tablet or iPad. Once loaded, it also works offline.
