The hundred square

The hundred square is the classic number grid, ready to use on the interactive whiteboard. It has two modes. In free mode the teacher leads: colour in by dragging a finger, hide numbers and call up prompts that check themselves. In the team challenge, each team has its own grid and the same prompt, and the point goes to whoever marks exactly what was asked.

Free mode

Colour in with six colours, cover and rub out; call up prompts and check them.

Find a number, the one before, the one after, 10 more, 10 less and the four neighbours.

Rows and tens

A whole row, numbers with N tens, numbers ending in N, from A to B and greater than N.

Sequences and tables

Odd and even numbers in a row, sequences from a starting number and times tables.

Calculations

Addition, subtraction, doubles and halves.

How to play it in class

  1. Open The hundred square and choose how far it goes: 20, 50, 100 or 120.
  2. To teach the whole class, go into free mode: colour in, cover numbers, or call up a prompt and check it.
  3. To compete, choose which challenges appear and start the race: each team marks its own grid, or one child plays alone.
  4. One square too many or too few means no point yet: remove or add until it matches. The first to 5, 8 or 12 wins.

Ways to play

In teams, at the same time

The screen splits in two and each team plays on its own half at the same time.

For one player

One child plays on the whole screen at their own pace: on the whiteboard, a computer or a tablet.

Frequently asked questions

Can it be used without a competition?

Yes. Free mode is for whole-class teaching: the teacher colours in, hides numbers and calls up prompts. When checking, correct squares turn green, extra ones red and missing ones yellow.

Does it include times tables?

Yes, when the grid goes up to at least 50. In the team challenge only one row is asked for, such as the multiples of 3 in the forties row.

Is it free?

You can play 5 free games without signing up. After that, a one-off payment of €9.99 unlocks all 78 games for ever, on all your devices. There is no subscription.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It opens in the browser of the interactive whiteboard, panel, computer, tablet or iPad. Once loaded, it also works offline.
