The detective
The detective is a logic game for the interactive whiteboard or a tablet. Several characters sit behind windows, and a clue appears with a picture, text and voice, such as “wears a hat” or “no glasses”. Children tap everyone who does not match and their blind comes down. When nobody else can be ruled out, the next clue arrives, until only one character is left.
What children practise
- Reason by elimination: rule out whatever does not meet a condition.
- Understand negative statements such as “no glasses”.
- Combine two or three conditions to reach a single answer.
- Visual discrimination of features: hat, glasses, scarf and T-shirt colour.
- Follow spoken and written instructions.
- Vocabulary for clothes, accessories and colours.
Levels and settings
Level 1
4 characters and one clue.
Level 2
6 characters and two clues, one after the other.
Level 3
8 characters and clues with “not”.
Level 4
10 characters and three clues, with “not” as well.
Level 5
12 characters and all the clues at once: tap straight on the one you are looking for.
Step up
Starts at 1 and goes up a level every two cases.
How to play it in class
- Open the game and choose the year group and difficulty; the level is set for you, or you can fix it in the settings.
- Decide whether the voice reads the clues and how many points it takes to win: 3, 5 or 8.
- In teams, both solve the same case, each on its own half of the screen. One child can also play solo.
- Tap the characters who do not match until one is left. Each solved case is a point and the first team to the target wins.

Is there always just one character who matches everything?
Yes. Every case has exactly one character who matches all the clues, and no clue is spare.
What if they rule out someone who does match?
The clue explains the mistake, so they can see what they missed.
Can children who cannot read yet play?
Yes. Every clue has a picture and, if the browser has a voice, it is read aloud.
